Pastor's Desk

Pastor Julie Blum has been the pastor of Maple Leaf Lutheran Church since July of 2002.  She is originally from Kennewick, WA with most of her extended family still living in Eastern Washington.  She did her under graduate work at Pacific Lutheran University and received her Master’s of Divinity at Luther Seminary, in St. Paul Minnesota.  Before moving to Seattle she served as Associate Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise, Idaho.  Pastor Blum enjoys spending time with her daughter, gardening and traveling.  In 2013 she was privileged to receive a grant from the Lily Endowment Fund to take a three month sabbatical, traveling to Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii and the Oregon Coast.

Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), offered a pastoral letter June 30 to the 3.8 million members of the denomination in response to the recent Supreme Court ruling that same-sex couples may now exercise the right to marry.  First week in June and it's time to harvest. Two garden spots along NE 100th at the church gets good sunlight.  Produce is donated to the nightly shelter hosted at Maple Leaf Lutheran Church or its taken to the Lake City Food Bank. This time around the Food Bank gets a load of lettuce. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a scarce commodity so the more focus on growing for those in need, the better. Come grow with us!
