 Ash Wednesday Worship

Ash Wednesday is on March 6 and we will gather together for worship at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary.  This day marks the beginning of the season of Lent, the 40 days that leads us to Easter.  We will gather together to be marked with ash on our foreheads, receive Communion and commit ourselves to this journey of repentance and service.  Plan on joining us that evening and then every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 from March 14 – April 11. Please join us for this penitential and solemn service as a way of marking the beginning of the season of Lent.

Lenten Devotionals for 2019

This year the 40 days of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 6.  We are offering two devotionals to help guide your way through this season:

For Adults: “Lasting Hope: Devotions for Lent 2019.” This beautiful, full-color Lenten devotional explores the Psalms texts for Lent in year C of the Revised Common Lectionary with 40 entries, one for each day in Lent. Each reading is accompanied by a photo, a quote to ponder, a reflection, and a prayer.

For Children: “Jerusalem Journey booklet & poster.” Follow Jesus through the scenic streets of Jerusalem this Lent as he faithfully journeys toward the cross. Each step of our Savior’s Passion story is marked with a colorful sticker that is added to the easy-to-assemble centerpiece. Children are encouraged to read a short devotion and Bible passage each of the 40 days of Lent as they journey with Jesus toward the cross and the empty tomb.

Lent 2019: Mid-week Soup and Worship

Join us every Thursday evening in Lent (March 14 – April 11) for a simple soup supper from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and then a beautiful and inspiring worship service, using Holden Evening Prayer, from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  We would love for you to be a part of that by simply showing up, but there is a way to also do more!  We need two people each week to bring bread or rolls to feed about 15 people, and then to stay after to help clean up a bit. We use paper products so it’s really not much work at all. We also need four people each week to bring a pot of soup, any kind of soup you’d like, enough to feed about 10 people.  Those folks need to show up a bit early to set up.  This isn’t much work either as we ask our wonderful SHARE residents to set up the tables/chairs for us. If you can help to provide warmth, community and hospitality this season of Lent we would very much appreciate. Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex (back of church.)
